About VICAB
Visually Impaired Cricket Association of Bengal (VICAB) is the only registered organisation in West Bengal working for the development of Blind cricket, other sports played by the blind people in Bengal & doing various social works.
Nowadays, with the advancement of science workability of blind have been increased by many folds. Presently they are capable of doing such things which were unimaginable in the recent past. Scopes of education in different fields, workability in professional fields and in the fields of normal livelihood have been improved a lot. Most of the common people are devoid of the above-mentioned knowledge. Under the cover of this tournament, our aim is to propagate the above-mentioned knowledge among the common people as well as in the children.
This organization is working on cricket for blind person since last five years. Finally, we got our registration from societies registration act department of west Bengal govt. in 2013.
Blind cricket is a version of the sport of cricket adapted for Blind and partially sighted players. It has governed by the World Blind Cricket Council (WBCC) since 1996.
Blind cricket relies on the common use of the ‘sweep shot’, in order to provide maximum chance of the bat hitting the ball.

We published small souvenirs in 14-15, 15-16, 16-17 mentioning all our year-long activities.
- After 20 years Bengal has been able to produce a player named Surojit Ghara who played for India against Australia in the t20 series which was played on 13th & 14th April 2014, not only that, he played a measured role to win India in the series. He scored fifty runs and got two wickets in the second match and became the man of the match.
VICAB Aims & Objectives
- Promote and encourage the advancement of sports (mainly cricket) & culture
- Help the needy cricketers/sportsmen/students of all communities.
- Help the aged, sick, helpless and indigent players/persons.
- Undertake any other job or business, as the governing body may think fit to fulfil the above objectives.
- Work on sensitive issues and causes for the society.
- Help to organize self-help group based programmed for augmentation of the livelihood Opportunities of the people at the grass root level as being beneficial to the public or to a Section of people.
History of Blind Cricket
Blind cricket was invented Melbourne in 1922 by two blind factory workers who improvised the game using a tin can containing rocks. The Victorian Blind Cricket Association was founded shortly after, in 1922, and the first sports ground and clubhouse for blind cricket was built at Kooyong, Melbourne in 1928.
World’s first Test Cricket match for the Blind was played between Pakistan and South Africa in which Pakistan defeated South Africa by 94 runs.
South Africa won first BCWC in 1998 defeating Pakistan in the finals, while Pakistan consecutively won next two BCWC defeating South Africa and India in the finals in 2002 and 2006. In 2014 championship was won by India defeating the two time winner Pakistan.
Blind Cricket World Cups
So far, five Blind cricket World Cups have been held:
- New Delhi, India (1998): South Africa defeated Pakistan in the final while India and Australia were the two semi-finalists.
- Chennai, India (2002): Pakistan defeated South Africa in the finals.
- Islamabad, Pakistan (2006): Pakistan defeated India in the final and became the Blind World Cup Cricket Champions for 2nd time.
- South Africa (2014): India defeated Pakistan in the final and brought world cup home for the first time.
- Pakistan & UAE ( 2018): India defeated Pakistan in the final and defended its position as world champion.
In 2012, the first Blind World Cup T20 was held in Bangalore, India. India defeated Pakistan by 29 runs in the final.
